Queensland Wildlife Artists
Society Incorporated Jacqueline Kitchen: Exhibiting member.
Jackie was born in Redruth, Cornwall, UK and was based there until 2001 when she and her husband Ian decided to leave and make a fresh start in Australia. They fell in love with Queensland, in particular Brisbane’s bayside area where they now reside. The beauty of Australia’s flora and fauna continues to inspire her everyday with its unique wildlife and such varied bird species regularly found in Australian backyards.
Although having had no formal training, from a young age Jackie has always been interested in Art, it was her favourite subject at school and a regular pastime/hobby at home. After moving to Queensland she initially attended various art workshops and was surprised with the effects that could be achieved using pastel after attending classes run by Gail Higgins. Jackie chooses to work mainly in pastel, acrylic or pencil/charcoal and feels a lot of fine detail can be put into her work using these mediums.
Another of Jackie’s interests is photography and she continues to be fascinated by the close interactions and encounters whilst capturing subject material for her artwork. Using her own photographs and the experiences achieving them, she gets a better feel for the painting which allows her emotions to direct what she is trying to create: her love of wildlife and painting them in their natural habitat. Queensland’s natural raw beauty is inspiration in itself and with her love of art Jackie hopes this is reflected in her paintings.
Jackie joined QWASI back in 2003 as an Exhibiting member. As a sideline she receives commissions for pet portraits in which she captures the unique character of each individual.
Peggy Korte: Exhibiting member.
Peggy Korte studied under the late John Spies. Living in the bush has provided her with unlimited inspiration, while becoming a wildlife carer has allowed close up and personal studies of Australia's unique fauna. Constantly challenging herself, Peggy has recently been trying out new mediums and techniques but her subjects remain our native animals.
Glenys Lindsay: Exhibiting member.
Glenys is a self taught artist who does her original work in clay; her bronzes are then created using the lengthy and complex ‘lost wax’ process in one of Queensland leading foundries. Glenys dislikes mass produced art and concentrates of small limited editions of each work.
Preferring realism to abstraction, and having a passion for sculpting animals the way nature created them, Glenys endeavors through her art to transfer the vibrant life of each animal into their glorious bronze bodies.
