Judy Scotchford: Exhibiting Life member. www.judyscotchford.com

Although Judy began painting and drawing Australian flora and fauna in the traditional way, she soon started developing an individual approach to her art, combining the more traditional techniques with her own mixed medium styles.
After her first trip to Africa her art world changed completely. “I was so impressed by the nature and beauty of the people I met that I decided to devise a special way to portray the colours, textures and wonderful personalities of these people”.
Pastels are used to give velvety shine to the skin tones. Fabric, chains, charms and thick acrylic paint is applied for clothing, jewellery, headbands and spears. Using her own self taught methods, Judy manages to create a fantastic three dimensional effect.

Geraldine Simmons AFC: Exhibiting member.

www.natureartists.com/geraldine simmons.asp

Geraldine is an artist who has a deep respect and passion for animals and the natural world where traveling overseas to see Orangutans in the wild forests of Borneo has been a part of her adventure as a wildlife artist. In 2004 she was accepted as a signature member of the Artists for Conservation- host to world-class wildlife and nature artists who’s shared mission is to support wildlife and habitat conservation through their art.  Many of her works have been donated to wildlife protection campaigns including the Humane Society International through their annual fund-raiser art exhibitions.

“When I draw or paint an animal I feel like I am connecting to its essence as though I am a part of their world while a sense of oneness envelops my whole being. I hope to inspire a sense of awareness that animals are not just mere commodities and that every species has an important purpose and a reason for being within this intricate web of life.

My mission as an animal artist is to inspire others to see a soul, something real, something touchable; we are not alone in this world…”

Nola Sindel: Exhibiting member.

Even in childhood Nola was always interested in botany, animals - particularly birds, and in painting, but it was only recently after a successful career in education that she incorporated these into wildlife and botanical art. Through her love of gardening, bush walking and observing native wildlife she is inspired to capture a moment in time of the living world in art. “It is the colour and fine detail that I always admire, and I quite like the clarity and precision that is needed in this form of art & illustration”.

Living in the Tenterfield area, Nola is able to specialise in exotic plants for cool climates and the native plants of the Northern Tablelands and Granite belt, Birds that are attracted to her extensive garden also become subjects. By focusing on botanical and wildlife art Nola has become more observant and aware. She prefers to work in watercolour, graphite and colour pencil, where fine detail can be added to display the essence of each living species.

Recently her interest has included a return to post graduate study in natural resources. She is a member of the Queensland Botanical Artists’ Society, Queensland Wildlife Artists’ Society and Borderline Artist’s Society.

Peter Slater: Exhibiting Life member.

Peter Slater has been painting Australian birds for more than sixty years, and has painted every species at least four times. His favourites are birds of prey, especially falcons and eagles, and desert birds. He subscribes to the dictum of famous wildlife artist Joseph Wolf who wrote: ‘ one only understands what one knows thoroughly’, and to that end has extensively studied all but six Australian birds in the field, often living in out-of-the- way places to be close to the subjects he admires so much. Each year he spends at least a month in the deserts, chasing such elusive subjects as grasswrens, quail-thrushes, Grey and Black Falcons, as well as more common species like parrots, chats and woodswallows. For many years he spent part of each summer in rainforests on Cape York. Most of his paintings are done in acrylic on canvas boards, but he also uses watercolour, oils and pastel.
